Research & Analysis into diversity within Australian boardrooms

ALBEI is conducting research into Australian companies and their inclusion or diversity policies that apply to the organisation all the way from the boardroom.   This page will provide updates on our research initiatives.

Data is an important starting point to know what the current state is and to prove our assumptions on lack of diversity in the boardroom.  ALBEI is prioritising this work which will then drive many of the initiatives to increase representation, develop board-ready individuals from minority groups and also celebrate where organisations are getting it right as leaders in this space, for others to follow.

We are not advocating targets for each under-represented group but we do need more inclusive board recruitment programs and more effort in reaching the pool of qualified board-ready people.

ALBEI will continue to broaden our research beyond the ASX50 and will extend our research into not-for-profits and other governance arrangements.

2024 ASX200 Board Diversity Governance

As at January 2024 only 2 companies in the ASX200 reported on under-represented groups in respect of their boards. This is in spite of 67 companies having fully inclusive diversity & inclusion policies which apply to the board and directors.

2023 - ASX50 Board Diversity Governance

2023 - ASX50 Board Diversity Governance

In what we understand to be the first piece of research into the diversity arrangements of ASX boards in Australia by Australians, ALBEI has found that 16 of the ASX50 have diversity and inclusion policies which apply to their boards and directors.
